What is NMW?
In the immediate context of the passage, Paul had just explained the message of the gospel (the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus) to those in the church of Corinth and encouraged the church with the hope of the future return of Jesus and the resurrection that is to come. Prefacing the encouragement with the victory of Jesus over death and sin, he exhorts the church to continue in the work of God, knowing that in God there is not a single moment that is wasted.
If there is not a moment wasted, then that means that everything we say, think, and do matters! The moments we consider insignificant and mundane matter! The way we live our lives matters! The finished work of Jesus Christ in our lives gives purpose and new life to all that we do and all that we go through. In Genesis 50:20, the Scriptures teach us that what the enemy purposes for evil, God purposes for our good. He doesn't change it or put a nice spin on things. He purposes it for our good. He is in control. Everything that He does, allows, and ordains is always for His glory and for the good of those that love Him and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28). Whether good or bad, God wastes no moment. If God isn't wasting any moments, then why should we?
Imagine if we all lived our lives not worrying about the things that we can't change (like the past) or worrying about who we're not yet (the future) or where we would like to be, but rather living each moment as if each moment mattered. How different would our lives look? Abiding in God is an active process. Abiding in God starts today not tomorrow.
NMW is about living every moment in the moment. What will you do with your moment?
no moment is wasted.
